Nativity

2020

Be a part of Bodmin's ONLINE NATIVITY 2020!

We may not be able to celebrate on our normal scale this year, but we can go even bigger thanks to the internet! So we are inviting all the children of Bodmin and its surrounding area to contribute to our Nativity by sending in photos of themselves dressed as the Nativity characters which we will then compile into a video to premiere on Sunday 20th Dec at 4pm on our facebook and youtube channels.

Black Water

MARY

A young woman who the Angel announced was “highly favoured” before God. Mary was probably only about 14-15 years old, but showed amazing faith, saying to the angel who told her she would have the baby Jesus, “May everything you have said about me come true.”

Poses required:

  • Doing her chores

  • Surprised

  • Scared

  • Kneeling before the Angel

  • Wondering what it all means

  • Pregnant with a large belly!

  • Holding the baby

  • Happy, smiling face

SHEPHERDS

Pretty ordinary, rough guys who lived on the edge of the town, looking after the sheep. There was no way they would have expected angels to appear to them – the shock would have been amazing!

 Poses required:

  • Looking out over the hills

  • Holding sheep (pretend ones will do!)

  • Full of fear

  • Pointing to Bethlehem

  • Looking at the baby

  • Telling people what they had seen

  • Singing praises to God

ANGELS

Key characters in the Nativity, the angels are messengers from God and also sing the fanfare that greets the birth of the baby Jesus!

Contrary to how we normal portray them, the Angel which met Mary was male!

Poses required:

  • Big angel presence – spread wings, etc

  • Singing praises to God

  • Speaking to Mary

  • Describing the baby to be born

  • Pointing to the sky

WISE MEN

Ancient people who watched the stars for signs. They longed to know what was happening on a worldwide scale. Non-believers, yet God used them to declare who His Son was to be.

Poses required:

  • Looking to the stars

  • Jumping with joy upon seeing the star

  • Pointing to Bethlehem

  • Riding on a camel (if you have one handy!)

  • Asking King Herod for directions

  • Presenting gold, frankincense, and myrrh to baby Jesus

  • Asleep, having a dream in which God speaks to them

JOSEPH

A young man (probably 15-16 yrs old) who was incredibly loyal to Mary and the baby she was expecting. Responsive to God’s instructions, Joseph cared deeply for his wife and the baby Jesus.

Poses required:

  • Asleep on a bed

  • Disturbed sleep on a bed

  • Disbelieving – shaking his head

  • Fearful

  • Pointing towards Bethlehem

  • Happy, smiling face

KING HEROD

A sneaky fellow, who was extremely threatened by the news of a new King to be born! He lied to the Wise Men, but God foiled his plans, and the Wise Men never did tell him where Jesus could be found!

Poses required:

  • A very royal pose

  • A worried face

  • A troubled face

  • A face with an evil plan

  • Pointing towards Bethlehem
